Orthodox "Chick Tracts"?
Orthodox Spiritual Wisdom Illustrated
Did you ever want to have something cool, short, deep, spiritual, non-polemical, universal, that someone didn’t need an Orthodox lexicon to understand, and not embarrassing to hand to someone (even a total stranger) about Orthodoxy?
One of the first books I read when I discovered Orthodoxy 33 years ago was Benedicta Ward’s “The Sayings of the Desert Fathers”. The short stories and sayings captured my heart in a way that Vladimir Lossky’s “Mystical Theology” missed. The only thing the Sayings “confront” is the human heart and its self-awareness of its darkness and its longing for light.
I picked several that I love and have begun illustrating them in “zine” form (they have appeared in this blog over the months). This is the cover of the new zine.
I have five done and printed. The photos show the printed layout. When folded they turn into an 8 page booklet like this.
Here are the five “Sayings”:
“Abba Isaac the Judge”
"The Abbot Carried a Woman”
“Dead to the World”
”The Woman in the Skete”
”The Pilgrimage”
And I have St. Lawrence the “Bad Ass” (or “Heroic”) Saint… your choice of two covers available for PG-13 or G-rated audiences.
And… G-rated
