This is hands down one of the best essays I’ve read on the spiritual life. Thank you, Steve! The metaphor is so apt. I wonder if we had more churchgoers doing real jobs (unlike me in IT) we would grasp the “knack” of the spiritual life a bit better.
I'm sure there's metaphors in all places that can describe spiritual things. Sometimes it takes a few decades for us to see them... We have to have some blinders demolished though. :) Thank you.
